"Truth over Facts!" a politician recently stated. Is this an error? How could Truth be over Facts? From my own logical standpoint, I was initially confused at how this statement could even work. In my reasoning, truth is based off of facts, and you couldn't have the truth without having facts to prove it. Yes, this is so in a mindset and worldview where the truth about something does not change based on one's feelings or opinions, but where truth is relative, constantly changing based on what the culture approves of, there are no facts that can prove the truth, and they are in fact inconvenient and uncomfortable.
Our position in this day and age is unique, because as writers, we can help to show others what truth truly is, and do so in a way that instills this view rather than pushes it. This advantage has been acted upon many times through history, by authors who give us an example of the way that they proclaimed the truth in their writings. G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis are two authors who wove their writings with truth taken from God's Word in a time when the world was drifting toward a changing truth.
Although we may feel that our writing is small and insignificant, we can have an eternal impact and change the world by our telling of the truth that is true, that Jesus Christ is the only truth in the world!
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 (ESV)
